British Coins To Feature Shakespeare And Beatrix Potter On Coins In 2016

William Shakespeare, the world renowned playwright, and Beatrix Potter, the English children’s books author and illustrator, will be featured on British coins this year. The Royal Mint stated that the coins will provide a snapshot of Britain and its history. The coins will portray some of Shakespeare’s best historic comedies and tragedies. The images will be etched onto £2 coins and will mark the 400th year of his death.Coins commemorating Beatrix Potter will be depicted on 50 pence coins. 2016 marks Potter’s 150th birth anniversary.
Other events that will be commemorated on British coins this year include the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings and the 350th anniversary of the Great Fire of London.
